The Spiritual Development in Schools Team within the Archdiocese of Malta is organizing a
webinar for parents and guardians of students from State and Independent Schools. This online meeting will take place on 7 th March 2022 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Its theme will be: How will we live Lent at Home? The subject will be presented by the educator Ms Mariella Catania.

European Money Quiz – Financial Literacy Activity for Secondary Schools

The European Money Quiz is a European competition on financial literacy for 13 to 15-year-old students. The quiz has been held since 2018 under the coordination of the European Banking Federation. The European Money Quiz is also one of the many activities organized every year during the European Money Week. The Malta Bankers’ Association in collaboration with the Department of Accounting and Business Studies within the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes, are coordinating the National Selection in preparation for the European Money Quiz – Grand Final. This is the second time that a local
quiz is being organized to select the national winners for participation in the European Grand Final.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Final of the European Money Quiz will be held as an online competition on Tuesday 10th May 2022, using the free game-based learning platform Kahoot!

Workshop on Language Development of Babies and Toddlers in a Bilingual Context


The National Literacy Agency is organising workshops for childcare centre managers, educators and carers entitled: Language development of babies and toddlers in a bilingual context. These workshops will be held online via MS Teams. The workshops will be dealing with the following topics:

  1. Promoting bilingualism in the childcare centre by Dr Lara Ann Vella on 8th March 2022, from 16:00 to 17:00;
  2. The development of emergent literacy skills in Maltese and English by Ms Miriam Schembri on 15th March 2022, from 16:00 to 17:00.

Raddiena Kliem

In the coming weeks, the National Literacy Agency will be organising again the on-line spelling game in Maltese, Raddiena Kliem. This activity aims at encouraging and helping our students to spell better in Maltese. Due to the present COVID-19 restrictions, this activity will take place virtually via MS Teams. This activity will be offered to Year 5 and Year 6 students. It will be held during Maltese lessons and will last about one hour-.

Heads of Primary Schools are hereby invited to encourage their teachers to participate in this activity together with their students. Financial Literacy Challenge in the Primary Schools

The Home Economics Seminar Centre within the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes in collaboration with the Malta Bankers’ Association is cordially inviting pupils to take part in the Financial Literacy Challenge 2022 entitled Young Chef Challenge in preparation for the European Money Week and Global Money Week that will be held between Monday 21st and Friday 25th March 2022.

The themes for this year are:

• European Money Week – Supercharging Financial Skills
• Global Money Week – Build your Future, be Smart about Money

Both themes capture the importance of thinking about one’s own future when making financial decisions.

Target audience: Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils in State and Non-State Schools. Interested pupils can participate on an individual or a group basis.
Description of activity: This challenge aims to promote awareness related to financial capabilities. The participants will create a healthy, low-cost food item with emphasis on the following areas: seasonality, sustainability and local.
Prizes: A certificate of participation will be presented to each participant. Prizes sponsored by the Malta Bankers’ Association will be awarded to the participants placing first and second for each category (individual or group basis).
Application registration deadline: Monday 28th February 2022. Only one application per student/group may be submitted.

Building a Financially Capable Generation – Activity for for Secondary School Students

The activity “Building a Financially Capable Generation” is being organized in collaboration with JAYE Malta to provide an experience for Year 9 and Year 10 students who would like to experience a hands-on activity about money management decisions. The activity will be held in-person or online and in any day in March depending on the teacher’s preference. Bookings need to be made by not later than Monday 28th February 2022. Organisation of School Based Sports Activities

The Centre for Physical Education and Sport in collaboration with other sport entities has successfully organized a wide range of sport initiatives and events aimed at Primary School learners. These initiatives and programmes left a positive impact on the participating learners, and the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes (DLAP) is planning the next scholastic year’s calendar of events.

During scholastic year 2022-2023, the DLAP is planning to provide learners a wider range of sport disciplines. In this context, stakeholders involved in sport are invited to collaborate. DLAP invites Sport Associations, Sport Entities, Sports Professionals and anyone working in the field of Sport to submit a brief proposal regarding the organization of school-based events and initiatives, SCDP related programmes, intra-college and/or national competitive and non-competitive events as well as talent-identification projects at Primary School level. These proposals should be addressed to miriam.aquilina@ilearn.edu.mt by not later than Friday 18th March 2022. All proposals will be evaluated by the Education Officer for Physical Education (Primary) and the approved proposals will then form part of the School Sports Events for Scholastic Year 2022-2023. Active Citizenship – Webinars for Year 8 to Year 11


The Social Studies department within the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes is once again collaborating with Aġenzija Żgħażagħ to offer a series if webinars to Middle and Secondary School students. This year’s running theme is ‘Active Citizenship’ and the subjects chosen are directly related to the Social Studies
syllabus:
