An activity was carried out with Ms Laura Schembri, the digital literacy support teacher this morning, at Ta Ħaġrat Temples. The students used their tablets and QR codes to find clues and information about these temples. It was great fun and the children participated eagerly. Students had done some research about the site prior to the activity and were well-prepared.

The first primary school at Dingli was founded in 1858. In 1903, it moved to 17, Main Street. These first 8 classrooms are still being used to date. In the early 1960′s, a new wing was built. Before being amalgamated with the primary school, for a number of years the newly-built block was used as an Area Secondary School. In 1975 the first Kindergarten class was opened. Nowadays Dingli Primary School caters for 9 primary classes and  5 kindergarten classes.

Rabat Middle School was originally inaugurated as a Boys Primary School in November 25, 1952. The school served as a Boys’ Primary for twenty one years after which it was changed to a Boys’ Secondary for another eight years, between 1973 and 1981.

As from 1981, the school became a girls’ secondary school and named Canon Paul Pullicino Girls’ Secondary School after one of the pioneers of education in Malta.

With the introduction of the concepts of middle schools and co-education in state schools, the school was designated as one of those which would be converted to a Middle School. Extensive works were carried out between 2014 and 2015 as the block in College Street was refurbished and the block in Ferris Street was pulled down and re-built. In September 2014, the school welcomed the first Year 7 students while the last Form 5 students from the Rabat Girls Secondary left in 2015.

In the Government Council session of the 16th November 1892, the Honourable Mallia Tabone asked the Principal Government Secretary, Count Gerald Strickland, if the land on which the Rabat primary school had to be built was yet identified. Count Strickland in the name of the Government informed him that he was authorised to say that the Government had decided to ask the Council to approve funds for the building of the school in the General Estimates of 1894.
Every beginning has an end. After the long process of four years between correspondence and building, the construction was finished. On the 24th of August 1896, the Superintendent of Public Works, P. Trapani, wrote to the acting Principal Secretary of the Government and informed him that:
  1. The new primary school at Rabat has been completed, and that the keys will be delivered to the Director of Education on the 26th or 27th instant. The school may therefore be made use from the 1st of next month.
  2. So, with effect from the scholastic year 1896/1897 all the children in Rabat had at their disposal a new school, which had been built thanks to the efforts of Mr. Gann Karl Mallia Tabone.
Rabat Primary School today
Our school, Rabat Primary, forms part of St. Nicholas College, which includes another 5 primary schools from nearby villages as well as a Middle School, 2 Secondary Schools and a Higher Secondary School. Rabat Primary School welcomes students aged from 3 years old to 11 years old. In our school there are approximately 400 students and 100 paid staff which include the Senior Leadership Team, teachers, learning support educators, kindergarten educators, peripatetic educators, support educators, clerks and ancillary staff. Our scholastic year starts in the fourth week of September and is up to the first week of July. Students attend school from Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
Until a few years ago, Rabat Primary was divided in 2 schools which were in College Street and in Ferris Street. However, now we are one school in Ferris Street. The school was refurbished and restructured and opened its doors to our staff and students in September 2023. The school is named after the renowned Maltese sculptor from Rabat, Anton Agius.
The following are scope of work and areas of activity of Rabat Primary School:
  1. We have a curriculum which we have to follow. We provide a well-rounded education that covers core subjects such as Maltese, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as well as other subjects such as Physical Education, Art and Music.
  2. We create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment that fosters the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of children.
  3. We have Learning Outcome reports three times a year for Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 students. We also have Half Yearly and Yearly assessment for Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 students. Educators evaluate student progress and provide feedback to students and parents on their achievements and areas for improvement on a regular basis.
  4. We organise extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, and cultural events to enhance students’ learning experiences and social development.
  5. We encourage parents and community involvement in school activities and promoting partnerships between schools and local organisations.
