Thematic STEM Debate

The Science Centre (Pembroke) within the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes is launching the 3rd edition of the Thematic STEM Debate which has been extended to the Primary Sector. The aim of this initiative is to engage students to become active critical thinkers and skilled debaters. Through active participation in the debate, students will:


• Examine ideas, reports, audio-visual material and policies;
• Verify the value of evidence for concepts;
• Recognize strengths and weaknesses of arguments;
• Engage with opposing views and speak strategically.

Reading for Pleasure Programmes

For the upcoming scholastic year (2021-2022), the National Literacy Agency, within the Ministry for Education will be organising the reading for pleasure programmes ‘Magic of Stories / Seħer l-Istejjer’ and ‘The Pleasure of Reading / Gost il-Qari’. These sessions will be held in-person in schools. ‘Magic of Stories / Seħer l-Istejjer’ is specifically designed and intended for children in kindergarten and the first two years of primary whilst ‘The Pleasure of Reading / Gost il-Qari’ is intended for primary classes from Year 3 up to Year 6.

OTPC Tablet Training 2021/2022

The Directorate for Digital Literacy and Transversal Skills will be delivering an online tablet training course for new Year 4 – 6 educators, during this scholastic Year 2021/22. Interested educators should apply via https://bit.ly/OTPCTabletTraining. Those educators who are going to attend the morning sessions should download the approval form from this link https://bit.ly/OTPCTabletTApproval and upload it in the application once it is filled in by the Head of School. NQTs do need not apply since they already attended this training.

Esplora Education Programme 2021 – 2022 Launched

The Esplora Education Programme for scholastic year 2021/2022 was launched during a press event organised at Esplora Interactive Science Centre.   Dr. Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, Executive Chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology, Dr. Frank Fabri, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry for Education, the Hon. Justyne Caruana, Minister for Education and the Hon. Owen Bonnici, Minister for Equality, Research and Innovation were present and delivered speeches during this launch. Esplora Interactive Science Centre offers a range of inspirational and engaging learning experiences for schools. These include science shows, workshops, planetarium films, 200+ interactive exhibits, exhibition gallery activity packs, artistic performances, events and CPDs for educators. The Education Programme is a great tool to use by educators who are planning a visit to Esplora with their students. Mtarfa Primary School – Our Work

The Educators and Students of SNC, Mtarfa Primary School, have put together a collection of pictures and videos, depicting some of the activities carried out during the Scholastic Year 2020-2021. The Covid-19 protocols to curb the spread of the pandemic has certainly made this year a challenging one; however, all those involved – SLT, Educators, students, and parents/guardians – have collaborated together in order to make this year a special one for the whole school community. EMBED Awards 2020/21

With the schools’ closure because of the extraordinary Covid-19 circumstances during this scholastic year, digital education has been taken to a new unprecedented level as many educators have found technologies helpful. Embed Awards aims to celebrate this wonderful work. Initiatives are to be submitted using the online form: http://bit.do/embed2021. This year, all submissions are going to be showcased on our website; plus all winner submissions will be showcased during the event. Further to this a digital certificate of participation is going to be immediately sent to all participants.

Mġarr Primary School Publishes annual online school magazine

SNC Mgarr Primary School has just published its Annual School Magazine. The magazine includes a host of information about the school’s activities, which were carried out with great determination in spite of the difficulties linked to the Covid-19 pandemic. Achievements during this scholastic year include the Matematikka Award, Book Champions Award, EMBED Award, and of course, the construction of our Outdoor Classroom and Green Wall. Well done to all the work done by the staff, parents and students! Special thanks goes to Ms. Maria Borg Vella for the compilation of the articles.

Young Reporters for the Environment – Ħad-Dingli Primary and Secondary Schools amongst the finalists

St. Nicholas College is pleased to announce that two of our schools – Ħad-Dingli Primary and Secondary Schools respectively – have been shortlisted for the Young Reporters for the Environment competition. The international jury will now be held in September – but in the meantime  we need to share and “enjoy” the Maltese ones to get more points for the final.
