Activity for Students in Collaboration with German Embassy – Es war einmal … / Once upon a time …

The Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes in collaboration with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, is organising an online German activity – Es war einmal … / Once upon a time …Students in Year 5 and Year 6 as well as students learning German in Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 are invited to participate in this online activity. This is a great opportunity for our students to enter the world of Fairy Tales and Legends in German Speaking Countries and find creative ways to describe them.

All participants will get a certificate of participation and a pack of resources will be given to all schools. The two schools (Primary and Secondary) with most entries will get an extra pack of resources. Interested teachers are kindly requested to send the students’ videos, photos or presentations by Friday 2nd April 2021 to Ms Erica Kawka Armeni on erica.kawka.armeni@ilearn.edu.mt. Collaborative work is also encouraged.

Primary Science Webinars

The Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes is launching a series of Primary Science webinars for parents/guardians of students in the primary years. The aim of the Primary Science webinars is to:


• Provide an overview of Primary Science across the primary years.
• Highlight the importance of promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) from an early age.
• Address key areas vis-à-vis Primary Science, specific to the age category.
• Provide exemplars of doing inquiry-based Science in the primary using everyday resources.

Participation in these educational webinars is on a voluntary basis. Interested applicants are kindly requested to register their participation through the following LINK. Registration will be open until a day before the date of each particular webinar.

Resources for Educators and Students: Teaching with Europeana

Europeana is one of European Schoolnet’s projects promoting the crucial role of cultural heritage in education. Indeed Europeana is Europe’s digital platform for cultural heritage, providing free online access to over 58 million digitised items drawn from Europe’s museums, archives, libraries and galleries.

Over the past five years, Europeana encouraged the innovative integration of digital cultural heritage in education. The material composing the Teaching with Europeana handbook is the result of teachers’ diligence, commitment and creativity in highlighting the importance of cultural heritage in their teaching. The handbook is available in 7 languages and includes the work of 7 Maltese teachers.

Prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Literacy Agency organised several free of charge Family Writing Activities, in Maltese and English, for children and their families in various localities around Malta and Gozo. Safer Internet Day 2021 – Resources for Teachers and Students

Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year. It aims to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people and to inspire a national discussion about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. Digital Resources For Educators, Parents And Students

The Directorate of Digital Literacy and Transversal Skills is extending its support service in the primary sector through a newly launched website that contains digital resources for educators, parents and students.

Educators can find a wealth of resources including teaching ideas, tutorials of how to use various apps and web2.0 tools as well as printable material. The website also includes links for professional development, training opportunities and other events. Video tutorials and help files will also be of benefit for parents and students, enabling them to access and make use of the digital resources used by schools and educators.

My Journey – Meetings with Career Advisors

All Year 8 students in our Middle Schools are currently being prepared for their choice of option subjects which is part of the My Journey educational route whereby students can choose academic, vocational or applied subjects depending on their abilities, interests and future aspirations. This exercise, in practice, includes individual and classroom career guidance interventions with students and online talks with parents to help students make an informed choice. Besides this, each college is targeting two days (as indicated below) whereby parents can discuss their son’s/daughter’s option choice with the career guidance teams.
