Summer Opening Hours – Literacy Resource Centres in Malta and Gozo

All educators please note that during the summer months 2022 the opening hours of the National Literacy Agency’s Literacy Resource Centres in Ħamrun, Malta, and Ta’ Sannat, Gozo centres will be as follows:

Literacy Resource Centre, ‘Ġmiel il-Qari’, Ħamrun (from16th June till 30th September 2022)
Monday to Friday: 8.30am-1.00pm
Literacy Resource Centre ‘Doris Vella’, Sannat (from 12th July till 29th September 2022)
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 9.00am-12.00pm

Application for School Transport 2022/2023

School Transport in State Schools is organised by the Ministry for Education and Employment. The Ministry provides school transport services to State Schools in Malta and Gozo and currently organises over 660 routes daily, serving approximately 13,000 students. School transport is a free service for all eligible students attending State Schools.

When will applications for scholastic year 2022/2023 open?
Applications for Free School Transport for students attending State Schools for the coming scholastic year 2022/2023 will open from 11th May 2022 to 15th July 2022.

Who needs to apply?
All parents/legal guardians requiring the Free State School Transport service for their children for scholastic year 2022/2023 need to apply.

How do you apply?

Renewals – Parents/Legal Guardians who applied for Free School Transport for the previous scholastic year (2021/2022) will be receiving a personalised email to apply for the coming Scholastic Year 2022/2023.

First Time Applicants – Parents/Legal Guardians requiring the free school transport service for their children for the first time for scholastic year 2022/2023 can access the online application through this link. In-order to fill in the online application you will need to use your e-ID username and password.

Resource Book: Using History to teach about Multicultural Malta

The History Department is currently distributing complementary copies of the resource booklet for teachers entitled Using History to teach about Multicultural Malta, published by the Faculty of Education of the University of Malta. The booklet, which targets Year 9 to Year 11 students, focuses on selected topics from the History (General) Syllabus and presents teaching resources and tasks from a multicultural dimension in view of the developments that are changing Malta into a multi-ethnic society.

Malta Junior Science Olympiad 2022/2023

The ninth edition of the Malta Junior Science Olympiad(MJSO) for scholastic year 2022-2023 is scheduled for Saturday19thNovember 2022. It will be held at St Nicholas College, Dingli Secondary School. The theme of the ninth MJSO edition is Climate Change. The MJSO (2022) will include two parts namely:

•Part A: a comprehension related to Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

•Part B: a set of investigations related to Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

Part A comprises 25% of the total mark while part B makes up the remaining 75%. A second circular with further event details and registration links will be issued towards the beginning of scholastic year 2022/2023.

Seminar for Educators – Learn Machine Learning

The Science Centre (Pembroke) invites teachers to participate in a training session entitled Learn Machine Learning Seminar: Fundamentals and Applications of AI in Education. The training targets all educators interested to explore ways of integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning in their classrooms. The seminar is scheduled for Friday 3rdJune and will be held at Veranda, Sqaq taċ-Ċawla, ir Rabat (https://goo.gl/maps/mx4bFg6PvGBrc6au9).
