Online Sessions – Symbol Literacy

Symbol Literacy Project sessions prepared by Prof Adrian Gellel and Ms Nicolina Borg are organising Online Symbol Literacy sessions targeted at parents/ guardians and their children (7-11 years of age). A different topic will be discussed each time. The first of three sessions will focus on Caravaggio and his work, the second will discuss Narcissus and the last session will elaborate on Narcissus and Echo (as taken from the Greek Mythology).

Webinar for School Leaders on the use of Teams

The webinar is going to be on Wednesday 27th May, 10am to 11.30am. The focus of this webinar is going to be on the creation of a staffroom, organising online staff meetings, communication with parents, sharing files with staff using Teams and One Drive and also on the creation and sharing of Forms. Vocabulary Spelling City: Website and Apps

Vocabulary Spelling City offers more than 40 engaging word study games and activities to practice vocabulary, spelling, phonics, and writing. It can help students hear, say, write, break down and play with words. The site can be accessed from a computer or mobile device via the app.

Watch Teleskola on TVM2 every Tuesday and Thursday Afternoon!

Teleskola – Your School at Home – was built to help parents, guardians, students and educators to easily find distance learning resources and lessons. Currently there are over 1,500 lessons across all subjects. You can also watch Teleskola on TVM2 every Tuesday and Thursday at 15:30. Another opportunity for students along with their families to continue their learning at home!

STEM Photo Challenge for Secondary Schools

The Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes (DLAP) is launching the STEM Photo Challenge (download guidelines HERE). The initiative targets all students currently in Years 9/10/11. Interested students need to take and submit an original photo related to one (or more) of the following subject-related themes as per table below:

Each applicant can submit only ONE photo per subject. The submitted photos will be adjudicated by a panel of professionals in relation to the following criteria:

 Theme interpretation and expression;

 Originality and innovation;

 Visual appeal;

 Overall impression/impact.

One winner within each subject/theme will receive a 100 Euro voucher. The awards are cosponsored by the HSBC Malta Foundation. All applicants are requested to read carefully the guidelines prior to registration. Interested applicants are kindly requested to submit photo per subject/theme by accessing the submission link http://www.sciencecentrepembroke.com/stem-photo-competition/. The Hunt: Kids’ Virtual Science Quest

The Science Centre within the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes will be launching The Hunt: Kids’ Virtual Science Questfor primary students in Year 3 to Year 6. The Hunt will take place virtually on Wednesday 3rd June 2020 at 10:00am. Participants are kindly requested to follow instructions provided on the Facebook group – The Hunt: Kids’ Virtual Science Questto login the virtual treasure hunt. Interested participants are kindly requested to register their interest by not later than Wednesday 20th May 2020 by compiling the registration form in the following LINK. The Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes will be awarding prizes to the first three participants in each category. Science kits awarded are sponsored by the HSBC Malta Foundation. Nisimgħek is the sub-line ext. 4 of the MEDE support line 25981000 created to listen to learners and their parents during COVID-19 period. It is manned by Colleges’ practitioners such as Counsellors, Social workers, Psychologists, Career Advisors, Safe Schools Guidance teachers. This line is open from Monday to Friday (8.30 -16.00) excluding public or school holidays.
