Students and Educators from Mtarfa Primary School Attend an Erasmus+ Pupil Mobility in Bari

Three students from Mtarfa Primary School were accompanied by their teachers, Mr Steve and Ms Silvana, on an Erasmus+ Pupil Mobility in Bari, Italy. The students visited the Istituto Margherita, where they were warmly welcomed by the Head of School, teachers and students. The Italian students had prepared cards and welcome notes for our Maltese students.  It was a great welcome indeed!

Istituto Margherita is a very large school which includes Kindergarten, Primary and Middle school.  It has a church, a science lab, a theatre and even a cinema!

Our students participated during the French Language lessons, Arts and Crafts, Computer Lab session and even a digital treasure hunt. Our students on the other hand had prepareda PowerPoint about the Maltese Culture and Traditions.  The Italian students were very curious and asked a lot of questions about Malta! Both the Maltese and the Italian students had also prepared presentations about their respective educational systems (the Maltese and Italian systems) and both sets of students enjoyed learning about each others’ experiences.

In their free time, students also had the opportunity to visit Polignano a Mare, Bari Vecchia, Alberobello and Grotte di Castellana.

Our students enjoyed this enriching experience immensely. Here is a Power Point Presentation that they prepared with the help of their teachers:

Mgarr Primary School Students Visit Poland on an Erasmus+ Pupil Mobility Exchange

Year 5 students from St. Nicholas College Mgarr Primary School were welcomed in Szkola Podstawowa nr52 in Krakow Poland as part of an Erasmus Project. Through different activities workshops and sessions, students reached different learning outcomes of this project.

Students used a comparative learning method when they studied Malta and Poland as two different countries. Through comparing and contrasting the cultures and histories of Malta and Poland, students gained a greater understanding of the diverse and unique characteristics that make each country distinct in the European Landscape. Students became more aware of different cultures and expressions. Grabbing a deeper understanding of Krakow legends helped inspire critical thinking and analytical skills as they examined the origins and themes within the legends. Our year 5 students immersed themselves in local cultural events while preparing traditional dishes with the locals. They gained a deeper understanding of how traditions shape the identity of their people. Students engaged with the locals and participated in traditional activities to gain a better understanding of the unique cultural traditions and ways of life in rural Poland. All of the workshops and activities were documented in journals, PowerPoint presentations, documentation, photos and videos.

This mobility was made possible thanks to St Nicholas College Accreditation funds, co-funded by the European Union.

Erasmus+ Project at SNC Rabat Primary School – Numeracy and Literacy Through Coding and Robotics

An Erasmus+ Project focusing on the teaching of Numeracy and Literacy skills through Coding and Robotics.

The objectives of this project were to:

1) Provide training to at least 40 teachers about Numeracy and Literacy skills through Coding and Robotics

2) Enable at least 40 teachers to expand their expertise on the teaching of numeracy and literacy through Coding and Robotics through exchange of good practices

3) Establish a good relationship between the 4 participating schools

The planned activities took over two years to be implemented which included a Kick-Off Management Meeting in Malta, school visits in Malta and Portugal and two virtual mobilities in Slovenia and Italy. A structured training course for staff was held in Italy (Milan). There were also dissemination activities by each participating school in their own country.

The concrete results of this project include:

Over 40 teachers who received training on the teaching of Numeracy and Literacy skills through Coding and Robotics;

Over 40 teachers became more knowledgeable about the best way to teach Numeracy and Literacy skills through Coding and Robotics via the exchange of good practices with other European teachers;

European schools undertook mutual capacity-building activities.

Participating teachers were given the necessary training, used online resources and other Coding equipment with their learners and shared their new found knowledge with their colleagues. Resources used are available for all the participating countries on the eTwinning Platform.

This eWorkbook is a further dissemination tool that can be viewed by all the school partners and also by schools in other countries. It is a good way to show our good practices and the success of our project. Click on the link below to read the book onine:

Learning Leadership for Change: Erasmus+ Project at St. Nicholas College

For the past three years, St. Nicholas College has participated in the Erasmus+ Project, Leadership for Change. The Project brought together schools from Malta, Belgium, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

screenshot l2cThe Learning Leadership for Change (L2C) project aims to move towards shared leadership, fostering a new culture in schools in which teachers, students and potentially parents willingly take responsibility for leadership in the school community. Evidence from research indeed shows that collaborative decision- making processes in schools can positively affect students’ learning. The project then encourages the dissemination and mainstreaming of school leadership-innovative practices and effective networking through capacity-building (self-assessment, training and sharing of best practices) within three key areas linked to the strategic development of the school: STEM education, Innovative use of ICT in teaching and Digital Citizenship.

For more information about the project, you can download the Project Leaflet and A4 Poster in PDF format. You may also email Amanda Debattista, contact person at St. Nicholas College, at amanda.debattista.ilearn.edu.mt.
