World Book Day 2021

The National Literacy Agency, through its Literacy and Information Support Unit, will be celebrating World Book Day during the week starting from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd April 2021. To celebrate this annual event, the Literacy and Information Support Unit is organising the following competitions for Middle and Secondary school students:

Year 7 and Year 8 Competition: Create a book cover


• Students are to design an original book cover for a book of their choice.
• The book cover can be drawn, printed, or crafted in any way they deem fit.
• Creativity both in the design, as well as in the materials and method/s used to make it will be taken into consideration.
• The book cover should be presented in A4 format, and besides the title and author, it should also include an enticing synopsis and a short author biography.
• The student’s details should be clearly written on the back of the book cover. These should include name and surname of student, class, year group and school
• Each student can present only one entry.

Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 Competition – Create a scene from a book in a jar

• Students are to create a scene from a book of their choice in a jar.
• The scene can be crafted in any way they deem fit.
• Creativity both in the design, as well as in the method/s and materials used to make it, will be taken into consideration.
• Not less than four photos showing the student working on the different stages of preparation, including one of the finished products should be sent. These can be sent either as four separate photos or printed together in colour on one A4 sheet.
• The student’s details should be clearly written on the back of the photo/s. The details should include name and surname of student, class, and school, together with name of the book from where the scene was taken, as well as its author.
• It is very important that the Data Protection Sheet is duly filled in and sent with the photos – CLICK HERE to download form
The actual jars should not be brought to our offices.
• Each student can present only one entry.

Prizes will be awarded to the best three entries in every year group. Several consolation prizes will also be awarded. All entries are to be sent by hand or by post through the school. The envelopes should be labelled World Book Day Competition and should reach the National Literacy Agency at the National Curriculum Centre, Joseph Abela Scolaro Street, Ħamrun by not later than Tuesday 30th March 2021.
