Enhancing Teacher Collaboration Through Erasmus Mobility: A Focus on Digital Tools for Student Engagement

An Erasmus+ Course

Ms Nadia Mifsud, Ms Maria Gatt and Ms Diane Mifsud, educators at St Nicholas College Mtarfa Primary School, recently attended the Erasmus+ Course ‘Attention Please! Digital Tools and Techniques for Student Engagement’ in Budapest, Hungary.

The course allowed our educators to gain new perspectives and share best practices related to the use of digital tools which aid children in becoming more engaged during lessons. The programme involved a small group of teachers from Italy, Greece and Spain from diverse backgrounds including primary and secondary education. This allowed our Educators to combine expertise and experiences and thus learn more about different ways of teaching through the use of Digital resources tailored for diverse educational settings.

Learning from Diverse Perspectives

The instructor, Joanna Szoke demonstrated how platforms like Kahoot and Quizizz can turn assessments into fun competitions, thereby motivating students to participate actively. They were also able to use other platforms such as the Google Classroom, emphasizing how the teacher can collaborate with her students and send digital resources online.  Another tool which our Educators found interesting was Nearpod as it can help teachers get a good idea of the children’s performance and engagement levels, thus allowing for a more personalized learning experience.  Other important tools included GooseChase, learning app and Gamma. Since some of the educators present for the course had already used some of the tools, participants discuss their effectiveness and different ways they can be used.

Ms Nadia, Ms Maria and Ms Diane also prepared a short presentation with the activities carried out. Click on the following link to download the presentation:

Conclusion

This was a very positive and fruitful experience for us as it helped our Educators learn new ways on how we they can enhance educational practices across the curriculum. This course enabled them to take a more innovative approach to education using digital tools which give way to improvement in teaching and learning.  The experience also improved our Educator’s confidence in the use of technology in the classroom.

This mobility was made possible thanks to St Nicholas College Accreditation funds, co-funded by the European Union.
