Ms. Lara Portelli and Ms. Riann Fenech Gladwish from St Nicholas College, Mtarfa Primary School, attended the Erasmus+ Course ‘Using ICT Tools to Integrate Migrant Students in the Classroom’. The course was held between the 1st and the 5th of July in Florence, Italy. Our educators were presented with various apps they can use in the classrooms to help integrate migrant students at school.
The trainer included both hands-on activities and technological apps to show us how we can create an environment where all students feel engaged. A simple app which is found on most devices is Google Lens.

Students can present a picture of their favourite place, food or monument in their country and their classmates may use Google Lens to find out where this place is. Similarly, one could use the ‘I can’t draw feature’ on Padlet or Adobe Firefly. The features on these apps can help students who find it hard to express themselves.
Apps which can be used for creative writing with migrant students are Quizlet, Mind Map and Stop Motion Studio. Firstly, the vocabulary can be presented through Quizlet. This vocabulary can then be inserted in Mind Map, where students can organise their ideas. Finally, these ideas can be brought to life by creating short videos using the Stop Motion Studio app

Twee is an incredible app for all educators. It is a form of AI which generates lesson plans, worksheets and activities on various topics. It supports several languages and will automatically generate various activities that can be used in the classroom.
An app suitable for creating listening comprehensions is Ed Puzzle; in which questions can be added within videos allowing students to listen to the text and answer related questions. Goosechase is an app which permits educators to create scavenger hunts for fieldwork purposes, in addition to consolidate learning.
This course has truly outlined the importance of ICT in today’s classrooms and how using various ICT tools that are readily available can be beneficial to all students.
