The ‘Water – Be the Change’ campaign announces Comic Competition for Schools. This scholastic year the “Water – Be the Change” campaign being implemented by the Energy Water Agency will be launching an exciting opportunity for schools to demonstrate their artistic talents. Create a published comic and be in for a chance to win great prizes which can help your school use water more sustainably!

What’s it all about?

“Water – Be the Change” is a National Water Conservation Campaign which seeks to spread awareness about water conservation and the importance of minimising water use in our day-to-day activities. Currently, a typical Maltese person uses an average of around 110 litres of water per day. A very small amount of this is used for drinking and cooking while most of it is used for cleaning, washing and flushing. Most of the time our daily activities can be done in a more sustainable manner by utilising far less water. This campaign will seek to help children learn more about what they can do – while also informing others.

Who can take part?

The competition is open for local Primary School classes (Year 1 to Year 6). Participating schools may have multiple classes working on the comics and each school can present up to a total of three submissions.

How will it work?

Students from competing schools will create a one-page comic about water conservation. A total of eight comic strips will be shortlisted and chosen to eventually be published on Sagħtar magazine in consecutive months between October 2022 and May 2023 for readers to enjoy. A panel of judges that includes representatives from the “Water – Be the Change” Campaign and Sagħtar will decide on the shortlist as well as selecting the top three comics.

What can you win?

The prizes up for grabs are financial contributions towards the school’s water conservation projects. These can be used for the introduction or improvement of any water fixture or devices within the school building – with the aim of conserving more water within the school.

The prizes are:
1st Prize: €1000
2nd Prize: €600
3rd Prize: €400

How to participate?

Schools that are interested in entering this competition are invited to fill in the form below and send an email to info@water.org.mt by not later than the 29th October 2021. They will then be sent a pack with more details about the subject matter, the required specifications, tips about making a good comic, and suggestions about how the competition can be made into a fun activity for your entire school.
